Queen & Slim
This is not a black Bonnie and Clyde story, it’s a powerful authentic portrayal of real life reactions of survival for two strong black characters to escape a reverse of “police brutality” meaning the idea is clear the white cop was going to kill a black man on the verge to than shooting a black woman he’s on a date with, while the cop completely disregards this woman simply because she’s black in assumes she’s a threat. When all she’s saying is I am a lawyer, what’s your badge number. All leading from cold acts of disregarding their basic human rights leading to further colder acts in a cold environment involved with the police who’s shown they lack to take accountability for their actions, from that moment throughout. A story sort of seen before but never in a black context. A black man killing a cop in self defense, always keep that in mind for those with biases. That’s no spoiler by the way, and most of my article’s contains no spoilers along with this piece I don’t like to ruin experiences. Nonetheless a strong, timeless, impactful film, and piece of cinema for the ages while being a love letter to black people. Showcasing black woman as queens regardless of background in a society that sees them as less regardless. Starring Jodie Turner Smith and Daniel Kaluuya.

Waves
I can’t think of a more important movie for young people in the last decade. Drama still, elevated story telling making the film never boring, never static, it’s a impulsive, electric, stunning and shocking quest of major events in attack on you until the end. A visual objective experience, key word it’s a experience. Rarely do you get a movie with a handful of perfect scenes as well in this film is one of them. Along with generational disconnects with black family’s, and most importantly the values in this film. By getting in touch with the right communication and emotions for us as a whole but mainly with black men. Deflecting the narrative of how men should always just shut up in eat it. A movie that must be seen and needs to be discussed on extreme pushing of your loved ones in what you may think me be the right way for your children, brothers, or any family members. Also covering co-dependent relationships and toxic relationships across the board in possibly the best modern way you’ll see with today’s youth on a film format. A dazed and confused inspired but one hundred percent original joyful fun filled in thriller of a ride.

When I Get Home
The Moma of the Hood Redefining black class while also finding and envisioning self improvement in terms of seeing better health for yourself, connections to roots and faith, loving yourself, and being proud of who you are in staying true to where you come from. Venturing off into her film of the album and visuals in performances as whole is her testament of setting a new futuristic higher standard and representation of black class in life, with the cherry on top being her creation of worlds, city’s, she’s creating on display with her platforms. The 33-minute short is a mixed-media visualization, featuring scenes set in a desert and the singer’s hometown Houston, 3D-animated dance sequences, candid webcam footage, and more. The LP features guest appearances and production by Playboi Carti, Gucci Mane, Cassie, The-Dream, Dev Hynes, Metro Boomin, Scarface, Raphael Saadiq, Devin the Dude, Tyler, the Creator, and more. A cross hybrid of infused jazz mixed with trap, soul, and r&b. A solid transitional jam session infused album by who I refer to as a black queen in my opinion.

Joker
First time Oscar winner Joaquin Phoenix for Joker with the most real powerful Oscars speech for the ages. Addressing a massive amount of white people to their faces about systemic racism, white privilege, oppression, and him being apart of it. I see someone who’s striving for change and beginning to make change. Also addressing animal cruelty and lastly a few words for his late brother a legendary actor River Phoenix God bless the dead may he Rest in peace. A two time Oscar winner for best actor and best score. Difficult topics are going to be difficult to watch. If you need a check and balance system for your life, for your current statement of mind and position in life than this movie is needed.

Once Upon a Time in Hollywood
A ending impactful as Hitler getting shot in the face from one of my favorite movies of all time, a top ten of all time list and most rewatchable for myself personally ‘Inglorious Bastards’ written and directed by the same person as this film. A love letter to Hollywood. Two time Oscar winner best supporting actor and best production design. Shout out to Parasite for their Oscar wins and the most important one of night best picture (movie) win. Monumental moments stoned in history for powerful representation for all ethnicities in more similar to Moonlight’s win created by a black director Barry Jenkins. Congratulations to Bong Joon Ho in the entire cast and crew for their work. Filmmaking is a lot harder than people think it’s highly physical and mental work so well deserved definitely one of best movie of the past decade get past your bias of no subtitles movie in see something special. Congrats again and to the people of South Korea. Lastly major shout out to the director of directors the one and only everybody across the world who wants to be a filmmaker is in the shadow of, with a highly deserved shouting standing ovation for Martin Scorsese.
