It had been a long day of moving for Emily. Emily threw the last box full of kitchen ware on top of the counter to put away. Knives, forks, plates, and spoons soon found their new home. The weather turned just as Emily sat in her chair next to the fireplace. This farm was once owned by her grandparents. Her grandfather built the house with his own hands. Emily’s grandmother died first. Her grandfather followed a week later. After they died the bank bought the house and all the property attached to it. Over the years the property was sold off in chunks. Emily was fortunate enough to buy the last piece.

Book Review: "On the Calculation of Volume: 1" by Solvej Balle . Top Story - July 2025.
I have been seeing this book everywhere and charging what Kindle was charging for it, it felt like I would never actually get to read the thing. Of course, until one day where the price came shooting down and 'Best Price in 30 Days' read '£0.99' and I was very quick to buy. With the language being a mix of minimalism and philosophy, the themes being that of entropy and realisation, this book definitely deserves all the hype it has been getting. If I am lucky I might be able to read the second part. I just have to hope that it is still on sale.

It was just a random day, nothing too pressing on my agenda, when I got a notification on Messenger. Curious, I checked my phone. It was a picture sent by my cousin—a photo of my paternal grandfather. I was honestly shocked. How had I never realized I had no idea what my grandfather looked like? Hell, I didn't know him at all. Someone so crucial to my existence was a stranger. But that's a story for another day.

She grabbed the back of the armchair to steady herself. There was popcorn and an overturned bowl on the green rug. Had she dropped it? She’d need to clean it up before they left. And they’d need the bag. A course of action was formulating and bringing her back down to earth.
