The Forgotten People: A Tale of Two Cities
I arrived in Portland, Oregon, on a warm July morning. I marveled at its beauty and looked in awe at all there was to explore. My fourth story shiny apartment was perfect, and I bubbled with the anticipation of a new start.

We abuse food. Every year, every month, every day, every minute someone wastes food. Maybe it is harmless to you. Maybe you just didnāt want the rest of that sandwich but have you ever analyzed the real picture here. There could be millions of individuals who just did the same thing because they felt the same way. The U.S. population recorded in 2018 is 327.2 million. Now, 97.3 million of that are people who make a low income meeting just above the poverty line. Approximately 18.5 million of that number is in poverty. That is about 64% of Texas.

Once again the seasons have turned. The days of this past summer were not filled with blissful memories of hot summer nights but, a crescendo of disasters yet to come. It is fall now where one looks forward to beautiful foliage of leaves turning bright red and orange, where Halloween brings out the child in all of us and where pumpkin pies adorn Thanksgiving tables. But, now all of this is overshadowed by circumstances that have run out of control . When we have lost too many lives by a Pandemic that shouldn't have been, when small businesses that once dominated consumer spending in practically every city and town have ceased to exist, when millions are struggling to keep a roof over their head, food on the table and desperately trying to avoid infection of a deadly virus are the realities of today.

We have entered a crucial phase in the epidemic. Cases are increasing across the whole of the country and the number of people in hospital is now higher than before the full lockdown.
The State of Marriage Equality
With about three weeks left until Election Day, itās important that we vote for politicians who will fight for equal rights for all people, including the LGBTQ+ community. Since coming out as gay in February 2012, supporting the rights for all gay and lesbian people was something that I was passionate about. Three years later, the Supreme Court ruled in a 5-4 decision that marriage equality was the law of the land. It was a historic day and victory for everyone in the LGBTQ+ community.

Can We Acknowledge Some Good Things First? Weāre all aware of the good that superpowers can bring to our current living situations. A technopath(someone who can mentally control machinery and/or create new electronics at will) for a computer technician ā maybe a bunch of telepathic psychologists who can pinpoint every vulnerability within the brain?

I believe that if I were to hold a spontaneous quiz about the substance of the 1619 project and ask Trump supporters to articulate any of the goals associated with this project, they would fail. The vast majority would likely describe the project as anti-American, a sustained effort by American academics to taint the purity of American exceptionalism. Few are likely to be concerned about the extent to which institutionalized slavery profoundly shaped and continues to affect contemporary social institutions.

Yup! I said it! ALL! Iām not saying that justice shouldnāt be served where it needs to be served. Iām not saying that some things that some do and have done to others doesnāt completely nauseate and even dis-regulate me. But I am saying that even the most vile, yup from the āworseā of us to the ābestā of us, we ALL matter!

The country is waking up this morning to the news that President Trump and his wife have tested positive for COVID-19. As the White House scrambles to determine who all has been exposed, and candidate VP Joe Biden gets tested after sharing the stage with Trump during the debate, what we may see in the coming weeks will likely be a spotlight on the disparity of healthcare between the classes in this country!

I find it fascinating that some people donāt understand gentrification as of 2020. I have had a few conversations recently, all leading me to say the same sentence: Thatās called gentrification. They all seem confused when I say it.

It's a funny thing, being a white woman born and raised in Oregon, a notoriously white haven, and championing anti-racism. It's an uphill battle, one worthy of the struggles, but painstaking nonetheless. Now, before I go any further, let me preface this by saying I know it sounds like I'm portraying myself as a victim, or worse yet, a martyr, when actually I'm the lily white skinned winner of the America's most privileged lottery. Just bare with me and I swear I'll get to my very serious and urgent point!
