Sometimes it just never gets better....

That’s the sad truth. As much as we don’t want to believe it, sometimes it just never gets better. We hang onto this much too worn thread of hope that maybe one day we will wake up and feel okay. For some people that may happen. But for the most of us it never does.

This is for the people that feel it deep down that it just doesn’t get better. Or when it feels like it may, life laughs and throws a sadistic curveball at full force. I’m not going to sit here and talk about how it gets better, and have myself and you reader, feeding off of some false hope. Don’t get it twisted either. Hope is a good thing. And it helps us hold on. I’m not against hope, I’m against telling you that it will get better when in reality that may not be true.

People like me don’t want to hear that “it’ll get better,” when we believe it just won’t or we’ve been waiting so long and it just hasn’t yet. Instead of telling you that, I want to relate to you. I want to make you understand that you are not alone in what you are feeling. You need to realize other people like myself are feeling the same emotions and having the same thoughts.

I know we have all heard that, life is unfair and as much as a cliche as that statement is….it’s true. You can try everything to have a good life, to do the right things, to make sure bad things don’t happen. But they just do. And they just come up out of know where. Here let me give you some things to relate to:

Does it ever feel like every day something always goes wrong? Like, not a single day can go by where something doesn’t go wrong. And yes I know there is going to be the people that say “well that’s just life.” But I understand how exhausting that must be. Not having a single day where something doesn’t go wrong. It’s just always something, right?

Do you ever feel like no matter how hard you try it’s never good enough? Like no matter what you do, it’s just never enough. And that can be so deflating, well I understand and I’ve been there.

Do you ever just feel helpless? Like you try, but you just want to give up. You sit there and wonder where the heck do I go from here? Like what do I even do? What can I do? And you know you can’t just quit, but you don’t know if you can continue on like this anymore?

Life is hard. And it may be dark to think that it may never get better. But let me give you a new way to think of it. There will not come a day when everything is perfect, exactly how you imagined and wanted it to be. There will always be something. Happiness isn’t permanent. It can be strived for and maintained for short periods of time but it can never be permanent. Being content is a thing though. Accepting where you are at is a thing. And the biggest thing that will help is appreciation.

Life is precious. And life is always worth living, no matter how bad, no matter how hard. There is always other options. There is always joy to be found. Life is a struggle but it is worth the struggle, because it’s worth being alive, feeling alive. You are alive once. And being alive is amazing. I promise you. I promise you life is always worth living no matter what you are going through.

Feeling cool crisp fall air brush against your face, looking at a vast blue sky, smelling your favorite food, feeling the touch of someones skin against yours….

Are just some experiences that make you feel alive, that remind you that you ARE alive, that you have second chances, and chances beyond seconds, and potential. You have so much potential to be better, to get better. All I ask of you is that you hold on. It may always be hard, but you need to live for the brief pauses amongst the hard stuff where a stranger smiles at you, where you listen to a new song that lights your nerves, where you meet eyes with someone that sets your soul on fire, where you feel the adrenaline rush before you do something that scares you and then the relief and pride after completing that task.

Life isn’t all bad, not all moments are hard. And the struggle may always be there, but you don’t always have to be in the struggle. You can choose when you let the struggle consume you and when you let yourself accept it.

Appreciate the little moments, because those little moments are what add up to a beautiful, fulfilling life. Those are the moments you’ll remember most. Those are the moments that will make you feel most alive. Those are the moments you need to live for. And those are the moments you need to appreciate.

I can’t promise you it’ll get better, but I can promise you that your life, will be worth it. Your life is always worth living. Please remember that, and find those moments that bring you joy. And hold on for brighter days where you learn to cope. Where you learn to accept. Where you learn to handle the struggle. Hold on, until you reach the day where you can feel okay, because you’ve learned, accepted, and appreciated. And most importantly where you realized life is always worth living.

This is so right on. You describe perfectly how cruel and indifferent life is to us and offer real solutions for not giving up. For those of us who find ourselves in the "bad place" this is a life line. Thank you.
