Robot Friends

Pet or Person?

My ex is such a narcissist! We hear people saying this all the time on social media now. The age of talking about narcissistic abuse has become a trend on social media to point out our ex partner’s bad behavior, so would being able to have the option of a robot friend fuel this or is everyone crying out the word narcissist to make the pain feel less? Sometimes we want a connection that fits well with us and it can’t always be found in life. Being able to get a robot friend that can always be by your side may be helpful with a certain level of friendship fulfillment, but at what point does someone need an actual human with flaws instead of programming perfectly how a friend would be and react? Is a robot a pet, real friend, or a new definition we haven’t currently come to the conclusion of yet?

Many robot friend toys are marketed towards children, so it may give an update to having an imaginary friend. This can be seen on the same level as reading a fantasy story in literature where they start to make up their own characters with specific personalities. Their made up friend is now a form of character building for human interactions. Technology is starting to take the place of humans in many forms and there are even now horror stories built around that of robots taking over all of mankind where they end up having minds of their own instead of being able to be programmed and controlled by people any longer.

Living in a lonely world may sometimes drive a person to seek a different type of relationship that does not involve the same type of complexity and energy as a person takes. This may come in the form of robots or artificial intellegence (AI) There are entire YouTube channels based around a made AI that talks to their followers. This can sometimes be because that way the person behind the character can change them to look any way they want. The modeing industry has even started having AI characters model their clothes. This can be seen as a positive or a negative because being able to change character apperance has been an exciting feature of video games that many people love, but others are concerned about what will happen with beauty standards in coming time. Will people start to use plastic surgery to morph themselves into the character they have always wanted to be?

It is possible that the robot for someone who is extremely selfish will actually help with them being able to take control over a character instead of trying to take the action out on a person. I believe it is just fueling more into personal self expresssion. People can now test out tattoos and clothing on a character before they try it themselives. AI and robots will have us coming to a point of being able to dress and look like what we want with no judgmeant. It will also be a way to test having a certian personality or perspective. We will now coninue to be exposed to these characters while creating a communication style and look that we will bring to real life. People fear the unknown and what may happen in time when robots are seen as a new power for people to take care of and be over, but it may be just like any other new invention that turns more good than bad such as how people thought the creation of books was horrible because it made people “lazy” when it actually expanded their knowledge overall.
