Astrology: Myth or Reality?

Examining the Validity of Astrology

Astrology is older than science. It goes way back to the days when humans thought the earth was the center of the universe — A time when humans were seeking some kind of meaning in a world where there seemed to be none. It is indeed “real”, but is it true?

The stars were a map of the sky, named after Gods and Goddesses. This aided in the creation of archetypes for what resulted in the correlation of personality traits and future predictions.

Astrology is what people believed before science and mathematics began to give us facts and an understanding of the world around us.

Is astrology true? Can it be proven? Not at all.

There isn’t a single astronomer who believes there is any truth to astrology. There isn’t, and it’s been proven through an array of simple and complex experiments over the years.

So how has astrology remained a staple in modern society?

Because it’s wildly interesting and fun!

A significant amount of people believe in astrology when it comes to birth signs and horoscopes — the idea that the position of the stars at the time of someone’s birth will determine personality and fate. They are entertained by the idea that certain star positions can determine their daily events and moods. Ultimately, our fate is in the stars! It really is pretty fascinating.

But, if astrology were real, astrologers would be able to make accurate predictions regarding all kinds of things- but they can’t.

When’s the last time your horoscope was accurate? Try reading yesterday’s horoscope and see if it really happened that way. Even if you can make it work for some days, it really only proves the reality of chance.

Don’t like the first horoscope you see..? Well, shop around to a few different sources on the same day and you’ll find your daily forecast to be quite different. If astrology were true, all of your horoscope predictions should be the same, or at least similar. But they are not.

What about twins that are born at the same time and end up having completely different personalities? How can that be, if astrology is true?

That above example proves a lot, but it doesn't explain why so many people are so profoundly drawn to astrology. Some people embrace it to the point where even on the days that their horoscope is obviously wrong, they'll find a way to make it fit, somehow...

So what’s really going on?

It’s just not about what’s true at this point. People who are fans of astrology are not necessarily denying science…

They’re just having fun. What’s the harm?

Astrology is indeed mostly harmless. And its ability to make money is what has made it timeless. People and companies grow rich with this stuff while taking the money of a few people who really believe it’s true. However, most people just find it entertaining, and are more than willing to pay for it.

Your astrological birth chart or horoscope isn’t based on truth or reality, but that’s never been the point either. Just like any other metaphysical or psychic reading, it’s meant for entertainment purposes only. It’s a performance with intention of someone making money. Even if it’s just that free horoscope you find online, someone got paid to write it.

Astrology has stood the test of time.

It’s just as popular now as it ever has been, and it always will be. A great accomplishment for something proven to be false. Perhaps its value never was in being true, but simply an attempt at understanding the ever so mysterious world we live in. There’s nothing more real than that.
