Introducing Queer Vocal Voices

Facebook groups truly have become part of the Vocal experience. The groups are a place for sharing your work, reading others' work, and providing general support and encouragement. Each group has a different flavor or specialty, and many of them have features specific to their group. In discussions with two queer friends and creators on Vocal, we noticed that there needs to be a way for queer voices to be heard. Not just heard, magnified. Not just in the PRIDE community, though we encourage every queer creator to publish in PRIDE. But any piece in any community written by any queer creator. Queer, in this case, is an umbrella for all in the LGBTQIA+ community.

The fruit of these discussions is Queer Vocal Voices, a new group on Facebook featuring and highlighting queer voices on Vocal.

Here are three great pieces by the group admins, further explaining why PRIDE needs to be a vibrant place where all our voices are shared and heard.

Pride Picks

Each Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, our admins will pick one piece from PRIDE each and share them with the group.

Fab Fiction

On Tuesdays, a Fab Fiction thread will be started to share your latest fiction pieces. They do not have to be pieces published in the PRIDE community. If you share in this thread, you should read at least one other piece.

Open Mic Poetry

On Thursdays, there will be an Open Mic Poetry thread. Share your poetry. If you have something short that has not been published yet, you can also share that in the comments. It does not have to be in the PRIDE community. If you share on this thread, you should read at least one other piece.

Saturday Spotlight

This thread is where members of the group share another queer person's work. Open to any community.

Sunday Laughs

This is where we end our week with some humor. The Sunday Laughs thread is for anything funny. Memes, stories, poetry…Make us all laugh!

What's Next?

We will also be sharing different contests and prompts from time to time. We have some perfect ones planned!

Vocal has made this much easier by removing word counts for pieces published in PRIDE.

We will occasionally share articles and resources about all things queer from outside of Vocal.

This is growing into a dynamic group! At present, we are only accepting queer members to the group, but as we grow, we will open up to allies as well.
