A Story of Perseverance and Faith
Greetings, Vocal readers and subscribers! Today, October 20, is National Day on Writing. This yearly observance has been celebrated on this date since 2017. The intention behind this day is to highlight the importance of diversity of writing in everyday life. I've been a writer on Vocal since 2018, at a time when I wasn't in a good position in life. Since joining this platform, I've written and published over 500 stories, a few of my stories selected as Top Stories, and earning my first Honorable Mention win from a Vocal Challenge. The UK is failing trans people
I am a 27-year-old transgender man living in the UK. I have been out as trans to my family and wider circle since I was 18, I realised myself when I was 16, and I felt this way since I was a child. I am often told (by medical professionals) that I am "a straight forward case". I play with boy toys as a kid, I wore boy clothes whenever I could, I wanted my family to pretend I was a boy and call me by a boy's name every day. When I came out, they were supportive. I am incredibly lucky to be surrounded by people who support me. If they were going to give the care, they would give it to me given what a straight forward case I should present. But I've waited for 10 years now.

RuPaul House of Hidden Meanings is a great book
RuPaul’s memoir that was recently released is called The House of Hidden Meanings and in my opinion i truly did enjoy reading the life story of RuPaul. Ru’s writing style is like you’re sitting at a bar having a drink with a friend and you both decide to start talking to a friend. RuPaul talked about when she was first getting work in show business how she was an extra in the B52’s video for their song Love Shack. Her cameo is really brief but hard to miss she is the tall black chick with an large Afro and a bandana dressed in white bumpin with this scrawny little white guy.

Long Live Pete Burns
Rest in Peace to the late great lead singer of Dead or Alive Pete Burns. The band is known for the classic “You Spin me right round like a record baby” from the 80’s. Dead or Alive had always reminded me of a Culture Club tribute act that made good. Other tracks that Dead or Alive was also known for the song “Brand New Lover’. As their career went on, they found their niche on the 80’s festival circuit.

The NOH8 campaign
The NOH8 campaign is a noble campaign for equality in gay and lesbian and lqbtq rights and the right to marry. The campaign is a brilliant campaign of photography by photographer Adam Bouza who created the campaign against Prop 8 that prohibided gay marriage.

NYC Pride 2025
Recently I watched the NYC pride parade 🏳️‍🌈 and it was a day of positivity and a celebration of being gay! There was drag queens and kings and dancing and also Gloria and Emilio Estefans daughter who is an out and loud and proud member of the 🏳️‍🌈 community Emily performed.

Hiding out in Hip Hop
I don’t understand why there is homophobia in Hip Hop and there is that in other musical genres. Hiding out in Hip Hop is a book from a gay hip hop insider who without ever given the names leaves one a lot of clues as to who the author of the book just might be referring to.
