Queer Tarot: Wands
Hello there one more time, my queerly beloveds! It should have taken a few weeks but instead it took many months, as having covid - and living in a world where covid happens - can take its toll on physical, mental, emotional and spiritual health...
Carry Pride in your Heart (Micro-nonfiction)
My First Pride I will always remember my first Pride event. I went to one at the approximate age of 11/12. My identity at the time was confined to the pressures placed upon it by others. I was a straight ally, practicing Catholic with a growing curiosity for the LGBT+ community. Little did tiny WriterWoman know, she would grow up to be a proud member of the LGBT+ community. That was the start of my journey, my self-discovery.
Civil Rights: Then, Now & Forever
The Civil Rights Movement: Then, Now & Forever The Civil Rights Movement is one of the most iconic revolutions in the history of the United States. The movement was a decades-long revolution for social justice and equal rights by African-Americans that spanned from the 1950s to the end of the 1960s.
I stayed up way later than I should have, the night that the nominations for the Stopies awards were announced. Secretly, I was hoping that my podcast<, the one that I co-host and that I enjoy making with Ophelie< would somehow have attracted enough attention to warrant being nominated for one of the many awards being given away by the crew of the Stopcast<. I got there just in time to hear who was all nominated and to hear which award I, personally, was being nominated for: "Biggest Drama Queen.”
Is it okay to call people 'Queer'? I remember referring to myself as 'queer' in front of some family members for the first time. The word slipped from my lips without thought, perfectly excited to dance into nearby ears.
The LGBTQ Community Continues to be a Target of Hate Crimes
KEY Takeaways: On June 12, 2016, Omar Mateen killed 49 people in the Pulse Nightclub shooting in Orlando, Florida. This was classified as a hate crime motivated by Mateen's inability to fathom that people with different sexual orientations could coexist with him. Just this past weekend, Anderson Lee Aldrich killed five people. In addition, he injured 25 in Club Q - another LGBTQ club. These attacks are part of a long history of violence and discrimination against the LGBTQ community in America motivated by religious morality.
Coming Out as BiAroAce and Non-Binary
Just a quick disclaimer before we get started. I am by no means an expert. This is purely based on my experience and my own internet-based research.
You’re Delusional if You Think Queer People Are Responsible for This Moral Panic
There is this tiring argument that happens on the Internet (and in real life), where whenever something bad happens —i.e., an election doesn't go well, a terrible law is passed, a court decision reverses a group's rights, etc.—people try to push the blame onto the person or group hurt.
I’m an authentic homosexual which/witch means at now 51 years old (never having sex with a biological female) and monogamous for 7 years in a 25+ year relationship after “coming out” at 16-17 years old and striking out on my on in the world I’ve had quite a journey. One thing that is very unique to the “gay”/alternative lifestyle community is how many are completely disowned by their families as they go through their own personal “coming out” process. I was also an infant advertised for adoption in the Newark Star Ledger who was adopted and socialized from infancy until I left home with two parents who then divorced and I went through my childhood socialization/“grew up” in a Judeo-Christian cult that did not allow the celebration of holidays. As my now deceased, former adoptive, father got a free turkey from work every year and they were both off work and I was off school Thanksgiving was the closest to celebrating any holiday I was allowed. I wasn’t even able to celebrate my own birthday.
Male Betta Lays Eggs
Every time I look in an aquarium, I wonder whether it is like a small miniature world. Only difference is that it is underwater. We know from science that fish do not have the same rational brain humans do, therefor we can assume they don’t have the same problems. But do we know for sure? This is the story of the male betta fish Richard who was not born as Richard-yet there is no certification to say otherwise.
This Anti-Trans Moral Panic Was Never About How We Define Gender
There's been a huge debate about the "transgenders" recently. I can hear the "just asking questions" starter pack now. Are trans women real women? What is gender? What is sex? Do we really need to respect these people who are changing the game on this thing that has always existed?
