May I suggest a scary, even startling idea
for your careful consideration, Beloved of God?
You are not a body.
You are not even a personality!
When you begin to catch an
awareness of that—
you touch the hem of His garment.
You touch the hem of His garment, ever so gently--
the ragged, time-worn robe and the
dust of this planet on which we walk--
the very dust of which our bones were made--
muddies the hem—
you touch the hem of His garment -- ever so tentatively--
that you desperately, passionately manage to reach.
And he smiles back at you, eyes twinkling.
“I felt power go out from me!” He declares, joyfully.
The awe of that is VISION—
is the Light
that sets us free--
that sets us on the road we have always followed as
we are invariably drawn His way like moths to blazing flame,
like a captive to freedom—
like a child to Love.

Death is a black hole. Think about it. A black hole is the corpse of a star, something once warm and bright, now come to the end of its life cycle. But some will argue that the cycle of life does not end with death. That death is merely another path we must walk once our bodies expire and our souls ascend. In that moment, when the fuel in the star’s chemical tank hits empty and the shiny matte coat explodes into supernova, the mass left behind – the corpse – becomes a black hole. We understand that, around such a vast cadaver, dimensions work a little differently in death to the way we’re used to in life. For example, light cannot escape the pull of a black hole when it hits the point of no return. That’s where it gets its colour. Space itself is contorted by a black hole. That’s where it gets its funny shape. Even time. Time slows right down the closer you get to it. The closer you get to a black hole. The closer you get to death.

This is a hymn. I think that the people who will be put off by this have their own thoughts and feelings about religion and Jesus...and that is okay. We are not here to just follow the same path. Every road is a challenge.
