Winter's Flower

A Remembrance Day Poem

Cold days, long nights

A world of white

Winter's spell puts all to sleep

But a flower still thrives

Unique for a flower

To bloom in the chill

It doesn't grow from frozen ground

But over patriot hearts

A symbol of red and black

Pinned on every chest

Calls through the snow

Remember

Remember the dead

Remember their wars

Remember their love

Remember their cause

And remember that winter does not last

They fought in war

But died for peace

That spring may come again

We see you, noble dead

Winter's flower reminds us

You paid the price for freedom

And we will not forget
