What's the Point?

A poem

What's the point of wishing

when wishes don't come true

what's the point in striving

when you can't seem to make it through

what's the point of trying

when you always seem to fail

what's the point of searching

when you'll never find the trail

what's the point of loving

when you know they're gonna leave

what's the point in hoping

when you have no reason to believe

what's the point of pretending

when you know it's all a lie

what's the point of saying hello

when it all leads to goodbye

what's the point of staying

when no one wants you here

what's the point of smiling

when it doesn't hide the tears

what's the point of waking up

when you can't take another day

what's the point of anything

when it all just fades away

Another poem from my youth. I wrote this on July 25, 2001.

Figured today (July 25, 2023) was a good day to republish it.

This is hard to read, Sara, without tearing up, hearing the voices of myriads, (including my own), asking these same questions down through the ages. It makes me think of Harry Nillson's "The Point!"

  • Your poem resonated so deeply with me! I'm so glad you decided to publish this!

Wow! an excellent blast from the past! It's good to get those feelings of frustration out. I'm sure it made younger Sara feel better at the time. I loved the repetition you used. Thanks for the share.

This is powerful stuff, Sara! It takes guts to share old work, but I’m so glad you’ve shared this with us. It’s raw and relatable. 👏👍

You found your voice at an early age, and that's a wonderful thing. This is very well written, and expressive, even if it came from an (understandably) dark place. Thanks for sharing your younger self with us!

  • Nice profoundly sad piece❤️😊💯📝

Aw younger Sara is so relatable...I hope you are in a better place now - you seem to be? This shows me how talented you always have been though! Thank you for sharing this! This is great, if sad!
