Under the lights

a sensational challenge entry

deep breath

in. out.

lungs inflating painfully

head swimming

palms sweaty

nerves strung taught

ears ringing

vision blurred

silence

buzz of polite applause

top of the rollercoaster

looking down

butterflies taking flight

click click

click click

heels crossing a canyon

tap the rough edge

little bit of feedback

the hush of the crowd

the faint sound of ivories

beginning, then

a swell of symphony joining

those first pure notes

soothing the soul

swept up

in a rush

of adrenaline

and serotonin

as voices rise

in unison

to the very top of

that mountain on high

angels singing

from the clouds

all to fall away

to that one lone voice

and a violin

resonating in the heart

silence

to deafening applause

nerves never bested

but that high always

achieved

inspirational

That was spot on and I'm sitting smiling, thinking back to my first time!

  • For me, it's those first few notes, a single phrase that transports me from the everyday into a wonderland of sound. The first time my wife & I saw "Amadeus" it was down on the Plaza in Kansas City, MO. After he has attempted to commit suicide, claiming he'd killed Mozart, Salieri is in a sanitarium where he's visited by a young priest who offers to hear his confession. Salieri asks him about music & begins to play one of his compositions for him. The priest regrets but admits he's not familiar with it. Salieri tries with another, but each time the priest shakes his head. Finally, Salieri says, "What about this?" & begins to play "Eine Kleine Nachtmusic", which of course the priest recognizes. So did the entire theater audience, which began to laugh as one as he played the very first phrase. I turned to my wife & said, "We're seeing this with the right crowd."

I love the “click click click click” part and how it builds from there, I could totally envision this whole thing! ❤️❤️❤️
