The Waves of Grief
A poem about coping with loss

I wish I hadn't rushed our time together as often
I wish I hadn't let our conversations become routine
I wish I had asked more questions; like what you do you love, what are you afraid of, what's your fondest memory?
I know you wouldn't want me to live a life of regret
And I'm learning that I cannot combat waves of grief with wishing the feelings would just go away
I give myself grace by asking myself what you have taught me:
Life is temporary, spend it being present
Open up and be connected with others
It's okay to need "someone with skin on"
I'm grateful for being here right now
Finally, live intentionally
Thank you for being my teacher
