The Tide’s Turning

The sun is shining through

The sun shines through his tear drops,

Sending rainbows crashing through the cracks in his heart,

The broken beat radiating to the mysterious pot of gold,

Giving his emotions a much needed kickstart.

**

He sang the blues throughout the night,

Yesterday was tough, he’ll not lie,

Blistering pain shattered his equilibrium,

Until he wished he could lay down and die.

**

But today is another story,

Now the sun has shone upon his weary head,

He realises it’s time to move his arse,

Time to rise from his heartsick bed.

**

The moon whispered her secrets to him last night,

Giving him the added strength he has been missing,

She told of a future of love and delight,

Honouring all the dreams he has been wishing.

**

He is in for the long haul now,

Working to bring peace and clarity to his day,

That smile you see upon his face,

It’s currently fake, but soon it’ll be real, come what may.

**

He knows he needs to tear down his walls,

Open his heart to the future blessing,

Welcome all that life has waiting for him,

And leave behind all that has been distressing.

**

Wallowing is for the minority,

A gift for a day or two, but then it’s time,

Time to move on, accept the destiny offered,

Choose happiness while he is in his prime.

**

The warmth of the generous sun heartens him,

The tears slow to a soft trickle,

The smile widens; the day begins,

He reaches to grasp the opportunity, understanding it is quite fickle.

**

As he dresses in his best jeans,

And his favourite button down shirt,

He glances in the mirror, surprised to see,

He’s turned the page, much more alert.

**

He strides from the room with new confidence,

Determined to grasp this second chance,

Well, life can’t get any more mundane,

So why not go looking for a new romance.

**

Having someone in his corner would be a dream come true,

A hand to hold, lips to kiss, a hug or two,

An ear into which he can whisper his greatest secrets, his hopes, his dreams,

A guiding hand to help him through.

About the Creator

Colleen Millsteed

My first love is poetry — it’s like a desperate need to write, to free up space in my mind, to escape the constant noise in my head. Most of the time the poems write themselves — I’m just the conduit holding the metaphorical pen.

That takes a lot of courage to get up from one's heartsick bed & imagine a different future.

  • I loved how his tears slowed to a soft trickle! Such a wonderful poem my friend!
