The Nursing Tree

Nurture vs. Nature

She had lived many years, seen so much change around her

Watched as her fellow sisters fell, watched as her new sisters grew

She often wondered when her time would come.

Then one day, she looked down at her strong rooted base

and took sight of a small sapling growing there in this place.

She felt a warm, honoured rush course through her as she now knew,

that it was in this place that she would foster, shelter, and help this

little sapling begin anew.

As time went by her sapling grew and she could tell that her time was

coming too. She did not wish to fall like her sisters had before.

So instead she told her little sapling to wrap around her core.

Wrap tight and strong like a loving embrace, so that here in this

place I will always be your rooted base.

And so the sapling did just as it was told, and as it grew big and tall

there at it's base you could still see the beginnings of that loving embrace.
