The Harbor

Sometimes you have to tear things apart to bring them together

Everything is just one great big blur,

It hardly seems real anymore,

There is a fine line in between,

Reality and a foggy nightmare,

The unfamiliar gray area,

Phase out the regular ol' black and white,

Here or there,

Hardly seems to be anywhere,

The present doesn’t seem to exist ,

It is drifting into a distant memory,

I have forgotten how to smile,

My eyes have cried far too many tears,

My heart can’t remember exactly what it is like,

To just be happy, light or carefree,

Because it has felt far too much grief,

I cannot look to a brighter tomorrow,

My eyes are blinded by yesterday,

I cannot manage to swallow my pride,

I cannot stomach my mistakes,

My feet wont move forward, they are stuck in quicksand,

Contempt, and bitterness have tagteamed,

With thier old partner resentment,

Have beaten them to the punch,

And slung me to the ground, falling ten steps backward,

Allowing hatred to blacken my heart,

Causing it to grow cold and frigid,

Leaving no room for love to blossom,

Smothering out our only chance at reconciliation,

Wilting away our will for either of us to change,

Much less draw closer together,

When hostility and anger have driven a wedge,

Deep within our friendship driving us only farther apart,

How can you possibly know what you want,

When you can no longer tell who you are,

We used to be fused together inseparably,

Two bodies but only one soul,

We did everything together,

Without your other half along,

I can never be whole,

Two brains we were,

But only one mind we had,

We promised each other forever,

Only to learn forever is just a lie,

People tell each other,

Until time reveals the ugly truth,

Not everyone is meant to be together,

Some forevers are destined to turn into goodbyes,

You and I both know how our fate is going to end,

We are aware doom is knockin’,

At our marriage’s rickety door,

Our once solid foundation made of steel,

Once unshakeable and strong,

Has rusted, busted and is full of holes,

Eroded by the weathering of such hateful, hurtful words,

Lack of trust and intimacy have withered it away,

Each fight has left its own special mark,

That has scarred our hearts for all eternity,

They say time heals all wounds,

Love can build a bridge,

Between two distant hearts,

Maybe, just maybe, all the tears I’ve shed,

Will form an ocean under that bridge,

To bring our broken hearts together once again.
