Who will see the pains of the heart
That only knows to give
And waits for no sign of response
Hurt and shattered a million times
But never gave up giving it all
She works to earn the love
She was taught to work for it
For it was never given if she was ever “bad”
she got more than she deserved, she tells herself
She held her opinions,
Her preferences,
Her feelings,
And makes herself invisible
Fearing people run away...
She cherished in their happiness,
Noted all the little things they like
And spent the late nights stringing them together,
She remembered their birthdays
Always the first to make a call
With a handwritten letter wrapped in a ribbon
She would hide a sad tear,
When anyone would call her generous
And brush it away listing her blessings
For they would listen with a sad nod
She gave her heart wrapped in her tiny arms
To all those people she put
On a pedestal higher than the skies
And when they let it slip by
Without the slightest hint of remorse
Only for it to trampled by
And shattered into a million pieces
She saw her tear stained eyes in each of them
Glistening in the purity of her soul
She bent over and collected them
And fixed them together as she always did
She held it closer to her chest
And her tear touched the newly mended heart
It stared pounding
As if by magic
She turned back at the world and smiled
I have mastered this art
I would keep giving for I am full
And the world
Will never be empty of the receivers
