The Future Was Always Ours

I’ve no doubt whatsoever

The memories stick within my mind, the years haven’t aged them,

I remember your silken touch as your fingertips breezed over my skin,

The subtle kisses running down my spine, sweetening the sensation,

Your tenderness was my ultimate bliss, our own personal lead-in.

***

I dream of us nightly, fantasies held from when we were our best,

The sunny days, the widest grins, the pleasure, the pain I miss,

I reminisce often of the sound of your voice, the touch of your breath,

The softness of your long blonde hair, the enchantment of your kiss.

***

Remember we dreamed of forever, the future was always ours,

The years we’d planned out, the travels, the children, the desires,

I still hold these tightly locked within my heart, yours forevermore,

Because a love like ours, the deepest connection, that love never expires.

***

I hold the knowledge within my soul, knowing deeply we will be again,

Maybe not quite tomorrow but definitely soon, essentially more,

Another daybreak spent within the security of your arms,

Better, stronger, powerfully tethered in the heart of the one I adore.

***

Destiny runs within our veins, moulding the essence of two hearts,

The daily beating of our pulse, the music to which we dance,

The distance diminishes with every minute, our time is near,

As we wander the path of our definitive second chance.

***

I await with bated breath for the magical starry night,

Ripe with anticipation, eagerness intense,

Our first glance will be all encompassing,

The universal signal allowing our relationship to recommence.

About the Creator

Colleen Millsteed

My first love is poetry — it’s like a desperate need to write, to free up space in my mind, to escape the constant noise in my head. Most of the time the poems write themselves — I’m just the conduit holding the metaphorical pen.

This was so romantic, and sensual. Well done, my friend.

  • If only life was so nice like this. Where people came together to try to make it work, a second chance. I don't know why but this made me so emotional and brought tears to my eyes 😅 You're such a brilliant writer to be able to evoke emotions like this!
