The Ballad of Clyde Barrow

And what he left behind.

Once upon this time,

Not too long enough ago,

A boy, not yet a man

Fell in love with Briar Rose.

Innocent, young, in love

Felt like living in the reels

When he took her by the heart

And spun her on her heels.

Too dizzy dancing circles,

One could get away with murder.

And she never saw it coming

Because he swore he'd never hurt her.

Just like that the song was over

And the dance was already done.

Instantly betrayed,

By the love she thought she'd won.

The heart shattering first time

Of feeling abandoned and alone.

Was she supposed to know how to tread

In the previously unknown?

She lived inside a flood,

Weeping every single day.

Until she almost drowned,

That's when she tucked her heart away.

And away is where it slept,

Even though it only grew colder.

For people always told her,

"It will all heal when you're older."

These days she wears a smile

That seems to never go off duty.

You'd walk right past her and never know,

You just met Sleeping Beauty.
