The All Powerful Imagination

And The Faith Of A Child

Ben spent the whole day digging in the dirt,

and found what he thought was a stone.

He yelled to his brother, "hey, look at this Kurt!”

I think I've found some kind of bone.”

*

"Oh cool," Kurt squealed, "please, please, let me see,"

he grabbed it from Ben, without asking.

"Hmmm,” he said loudly, “it looks kind of fossil-illy,"

when Ben grabbed it back, it was cracking.

*

Ben wrapped it in his sleeve,

and they both ran for home.

Like a make-believe story,

the whole room filled with smoke.

*

From out of the haze,

stood before him, a giant.

Nose to nose with this beast,

Ben motioned for Kurt to be quiet.

*

His scales glistened and shimmered,

like a big disco ball.

They stood together and quivered,

never moving at all.

*

The beast spoke to the boys,

without saying a word.

Never using a voice,

they understood what they heard.

*

Then out of nowhere, Ben started to cry,

he said he was sorry that they all had to die.

The beast folded his wings gently over their shoulders,

and said , "you don't know it now, but will learn when you are older.”

*

“There are things in this life that just sometimes happen,

like what happened to us, unicorns and the dragons.

But you can bring us all back, using your imaginations,

be gentle and kind, practice acceptance and compassion.

*

These are the things we can't let go extinct,

they are the things life is made of, if you know what I mean.

Whenever you doubt or feel afraid of the future,

remember, you’ve got what it takes to cradle and nurture.”

*

Then as quickly as it came,

the vision was over.

Kurt looked at Ben,

and threw his arms around his shoulders.

*

“You have to help me imagine,

we can keep their memories alive”

Kurt smiled at Ben

And said, “I’m already tryin!"
