Proud to Be Misunderstood
I was truthful…
Yet the world called me a liar.
I was kind…
Yet they declared me wrong.
What I believed to be right
The world rejected.
What pleased the world
Clashed with my principles.
I could not flatter,
Nor lean upon the comfort of lies.
In the marketplace of compromises
I stood alone
Defeated, perhaps… but never broken.
They said to me:
"This is the world, this is how it survives.
Learn to bow, learn to sway,
Or be left behind."
But I asked my heart:
Did God create this world for this?
A world where the weak are crushed?
Where the innocent are exploited?
Where the nation’s good is sacrificed
For selfish gain?
Yes… I have made mistakes,
But they were born of innocence.
Now I have vowed to myself:
My steps will never again walk a path
Where truth is buried
And greed prevails.
If standing by the truth is a crime
Then yes… I am guilty.
If holding to righteousness is “wrong”
Then I am proud to be wrong.
I never learned the games of the world,
Nor do I wish to learn them.
My heartlonely as it may be
Sleeps in the comfort of peace.
And that…
Is the one victory
The world can never take from me.
