Almost Stayed

But not quite long enough

By Umar AminPublished about a year ago 1 min read

You sat on the edge of goodbye,

like maybe you’d change your mind.

Eyes full of something breaking,

but not the kind you rewind.

I said nothing—just breathed,

afraid words would make you leave.

Still, silence didn’t save us,

only gave me space to grieve.

Your jacket’s still by the door,

untouched like it’s still yours.

I dust around it slowly,

pretending this isn’t the end.

Some nights, I almost forget—

but morning always reminds me.

Love almost stayed,

but almost was never mine.
