PRELUDE TO LAUGHTER
Vicki, 1978 I wrote this poem in 1978 at age 28, while working a full time job, attending college full time, and juggling a busy social life. Driving through Los Angeles became the one place where my mind could drift — from concrete and buildings to dreams of green mountains and ocean spray. These images helped me return to that moment exactly as it felt.

Solo, Not Lonely
Being single is actually a wonderful thing. You can eat what you want, buy what you want, and decide where you want to go. You aren't influenced by another person's emotions, nor do you lose your right to choose because of someone else.

Peace Shared, Peace Found
There are no shortcuts to happiness. Even the most special relationships require a natural order. Only the right order leads to true happiness. Don't be impatient, and don't be afraid of being alone; relationships that start haphazardly often end haphazardly as well.
