heartbreak

The book by its cover
I feel like a used book that you only picked up because you liked the cover. You ran your fingers along my spine then decided I was good enough to take home. But when you opened me up and realized how tattered my pages were you tried to return me at once.

A Heart Still Waiting
I watched you drift away, Your footsteps fading slow, And while you kept on walking, I stayed, unable to let go. The world moved on without me, But I’m stuck in the past, Holding onto moments That I hoped would always last. You found new skies to chase, I stayed beneath the rain, Reaching for your laughter, While holding onto pain. I feel your warmth around me In the places you once were, But now the quiet lingers Where your voice was soft and sure. I smile like I'm healing, But inside, I still stay, Caught in what we built together That time won’t take away. So here I am, in shadows, Locked inside my mind, Loving you in memories, A heart you left behind.
