The words stuck
To my tongue,
Halting all attempts
To catch breath
Or offer support,
Instead finding it easier
To flow from fingertips
Ink to paper
Blood to burn,
Unfinished thoughts
About unfinished life
With so much to give
So much to grow,
As memories float
Like fallen leaves on pond
Swirling days blending
A laughing child
Running through field
A tight hug
Never forgotten
A crying child
Looking for leader
Finding herself instead
A captivating mind
A free spirit
Living in a world
Unwelcoming to someone
So radiant,
Taken to higher level
Wings sprouted
Before we were ready
And I wish
We could repeat
The days in the field
Running from rock to rock
With little care of tomorrow
Knowing it would come
When now I wonder
Why it didn't.

Ours was eighteen & a half years old, one month before his high school graduation. How old was yours? My heart breaks for you. My prayers are with you.
