The line was formed
Loose chains holding all
A mind trick set in place
To follow the leader
While their friends
Plucked and pulled,
Damaging the line,
Weakening the herd
That didn’t know
They were being herded
Sheep for slaughter
Missing the wolf among them,
The sharp teeth the leader had
The claws ready to rip
To tear throats
At first sign of rebellion-
But there was a trip,
A stumble,
A rock tossed in path
Of leader and comrades
Enough to jostle the chains
That held the followers at bay,
Enough that they heard
The sweet tink, tink, tink
Of a freedom they craved,
Hands slipped free of links
Raised in united motion
To overturn the power
To take back to the masses
The resources stolen,
The homes upturned
The remembrance to live
And not just survive.

This was such a powerful poem! I loved it!
That continuing cycle of human history where the oppressed overthrow the oppressors, only to become oppressors themselves. A heroic struggle that always seems to end in disappointment & disillusion. Do you think we will ever evolve sufficiently to break the cycle?
