Sorcerer's Moon
Tonight's the Night
Whispered incantations cast
In darkened, secret rooms
Will linger 'til this night has passed,
And Morning Glory blooms.

Familiars will prowl darkened streets
In search of those who call,
While from the alleys, low drum beats
Enrapture and enthrall.

Cold flesh will tingle, hairs will stand
And unseen hands caress
As long-enamored souls demand
To be allowed ingress.

Powers black and powers white
Will battle for their goals,
Leaving in their wake the plight
Of unsuspecting souls.
__________________________
Flames will flicker, fires burn bright
While victors claim their prizes.
Be wary, friend, for on this night
The Sorcerer's Moon rises.

This one was inspired by one of my moon photos. On Friday, September 13, 2019, we had a very rare occurrence, as the Harvest Moon fell on Friday the 13th, making it a Sorcerer's Moon, said to have power for those who know how to use it. I'm not particularly superstitious, but it's an intriguing enough subject to write a poem about.
This is a cropped version of a photo taken from my driveway, a few minutes after the moon rose behind a thin layer of clouds. Yes, it was this yellow, and yes, it appeared this flat. The 13" x 19" print has been one of my best sellers, particularly around Halloween.

Musical enough for youth & young adults, but not so sing-songy as to turn off those who get turned off by such things. Vivid, imaginative, immersive such that all may enjoy.
