Secrets In A Locket
A Cold Dying Ember
i got lost in a secret
it made my heart smile
i promised to keep it
if for only a while
*
this one little secret
could light cities on fire
the tiniest floweret
i have agreed to conspire
*
i keep it in my pocket
keep it close to my side
i wear it in a locket
a silver chain and rawhide
*
no one will ever
get me to confess
i'm a little bit harder
to fool, i guess
*
i'll stay lost in the secret
no, i won't tell a soul
and to be quite honest
it should never be told
*
if i must, i will bury it
deep underground
in a sacred, secret garden
that can never be found
*
i'll cover it, with wildflowers
stir the leaves all around
i'll protect it from showers
and those nosey ol' hounds
*
tending the vines of september
growing luscious and tall
till no-one remembers
i had a secret at all
*
a cold dying ember
turned to ash in the breeze
escaping surrender
way up, over the trees

Now that, ladies and gentlemen, is how a secret should be kept!
made me smile
Enjoyed the poem. And for some reason, I really like the "keep it" rhyme with "secret".
That's okay. I didn't want to know anyway. That didn't work? Gosh darn it! Love the poem, BTW.
