Second Life

a poem for those looking for reasons

My second life began when I started chasing the feeling of being alive

I found it many places you'd expect:

Running off mountain tops into open glider arms

Jumping fully clothed into the sea

Staring out at a new day from 14,000 feet

Those moments where it is impossible to be anywhere but perfectly present

The true art of it comes from the ability to split seconds

Make a moment last a moment more

Hold onto it tight with both hands

Then release it

Because you know that moments are made valuable

By the impermanence

By the mere knowledge that even should you return,

the moment can not be mimicked

You will never again be

In that precise place

With those same people

That exact you

Because change is the inevitable price of time

But I've come to find some of the most impressive moments are the inbetween

They're quiet

but vibrant

Times I've found being alive in the bottom of a coffee cup

In the light of a window

In the eyelashes of a man asleep

Moments where thoughts are a whisper

"Thank God you didn't miss this,

Found the courage to live again"
