Same Time

A Poem

By Audrey Ella GarlandPublished 4 years ago 1 min read

And just like that

Everything is rushing by

And crawling by

Somehow at the same time.

My soul exhumes itself

From the tomb that is my body

And I’m floating, I’m falling back.

I’m inside the eye of the storm

I look around and I can see

Everything and everyone

Around me.

You all might think I’m right here

In front of you

But this willowy, fragile girl

Is far, far away.

The lights are dim

The sound is muffled

And crackles in and out

And memories, like demons

Swirl around her

Groping her mind

Her body, her soul

Everything that she is.

And as much as she tries to fend them off

Day by day

Sometimes she gives in

To the double-edged sword

Of pleasure and pain

Letting both blades

Sink deep into her

Killing her, yet making her

Feel so alive

At the same time.

heartbreak
