Ring Pop

The day

I put you

on my finger

was the sweetest day

of my life.

The day

you became

my Strawberry-Watermelon flavoured Ring Pop

was the day

I received

the most indulgent treat

for free.

Since that sunny,

swimming pool-blue skied,

halcyon camp day

we shook hands,

and smiled with grace,

I’ve kept

you on my finger

and never

discarded you.

Since I was

in the middle of nowhere,

Ontario,

I didn’t have access

to a local candy shop.

You will forever

be cherished,

my sweet treat,

because

you are treacly,

sticky,

colourful,

and decadent

like a Ring Pop.

Thank you,

once again

for this free gift

you gifted me

that day.
