Remote Control

Click.

static....

fuzzing frequency

pulsing and popping

similar to drunken or aberrant

caterpillars convulsing and curling

against the gray-scale screen.

A dull, lifeless clicking, sporadic in essence

silences and intensifies the

woolly buzzing

abruptly stopping and starting

in increments of five

each silence between clicks

more ominous than the one before.

the ruby eye crowned atop

the channel changer

flirtatiously blinks

blurring the lines separating

life and hazy ending, and

the metronome lays

mindlessly sprawled

slowly returning to silence

under the hot oil pops

and rain stick bouts

of the cloud-drenched window

television

and the depressingly somber

views it begins to

believe.
