Pond Scum Lullabies

Locking away your emotions and yourself can keep you from getting hurt, but it takes a heavy toll.

vermillion scum patterns

yellow-green frowns

coating the pond in my chest

no shiny penny fish

swim about within

copper flashes dry and fades to brown

decay is my fortune

bones bob in green film

the birth of tragedy can't come from death

exacting a price

on all that dare trespass

you will pay your toll or you will join the end

the end of the alibis

the end of the dread

the end of all the water flowing home

is there peace in stillness

in algal blooms unbroken

a water undisturbed and left to rest

my decay is my fortune

my tomb is left alone

beneath wet green none can hurt the dead

sad poetry
