My new muse is a statue presiding

Over Athens and all the rest of Greece

The gentle city bears her epic name

Divulging wisdom for all the ages

Born from the forehead of Zeus we were told

Athena must have received all of it

She saved her owl’s home from scheming Hades

Produced olive trees to best Poseidon

Used snakes as if they were free from sin

The Gorgoneion was her amulet

Panathenaia her foremost Athens

Festival was feted eight hundred years

Till an archaic religion came to

Replace her wisdom with sheer servitude

Never thought of using a statue as a muse but it makes an interesting subject.

  • Happy to read that!!
