My Mother

Carla from Shingeki no Kyojin

Her life

Was pennies

And nickels

With busted

Knuckles

From washing

And washing

The boss’s

Shit stained

Underwear.

Her life

Was hand carried

Groceries

On cracked sidewalks

Where even

Weeds didn't

Dare to grow

Dropping oranges

That rolled

Into sewers.

Her life

Was late buses

And crowded

Trains

That stank

Of piss

And filth

Where she

Never got

To sit.

Her life

Was never

Pink

Or yellow

Always

The same

Shit colored

Brown

Day in

And out.

Her life

Was only white

In death

So I now know

Why

She smiled

In the hospital

That smelt like

Soap, sanitizer,

And daisies.

On the morning

Of her burial

The sunrise

Was finally vibrant

With pink's

And yellow's

And I laid

Roses

On my mothers

Shit colored

Casket.
