My Favorite Time of Year
How I always loved Autumn
Autumn is the sweetest love affair.
The same love affair that is underscored by the music of Armstrong,
Fitzgerald,
Prima,
Martin,
Sinatra.
It evokes within itself the sweetest nostalgia while simultaneously making room for something new
As leaves fall from trees and crunch under feet,
lovers bundle closer together to brace against the chill,
and the scents of pumpkin pie and warm apple cider fill the air,
I gaze out of a window and watch the sunset with a peace that is only felt during this time of year,
a peace that warms through to my bones
and makes life worth living.
A peace that envelops me like a flannel blanket
as I curl up for the most beautiful sleep at the end of my days.
I will always love the sweet love affair of Autumn.
