Maestros
Scene from a Dublin pub
She is old
but her looks have remained
in a classy and dignified way.
The space is lit by candlelight
and the phospherescent glow
of beer taps.
I watch without
them knowing, a drunken fly on
the wall.
He reaches across and touches
hair, silver white
as candle flame dances across her
like a ballet symphony.
I sit and imagine his admiration
for that hair.
He has watched it fade from a
deep brunette to what now
sits before him.
He has watched her face deepen
and crack.
He has watched
her skin grow loose and spotted.
He has watched her tummy sag,
her ass flatten
her neck droop.
And in every way
she has watched time
work on him too.
They have ordered
more drinks and he leans in now
and she laughs a beautiful melody.
They are Masters of their World's.
They are the happiest people,
I have ever seen.

Yes, true love is just like that. It's devoid of expectations and fully aware of its purpose. Age cannot affect it. Powerful read!
Excellent! It’s amazing how you mind paints pictures as you read along. I loved the entire progression in this piece! Well done.

This is wonderfully written. True love lasts and only grows stronger with age.
