with half the town on fire
round and round we go
sometimes you just have to let it happen.
watch it
observe it
let the music play
let life and its irony
move through the room
with the dignity and grace of a garbage truck
*
we live in the fastest time
the smartest time
the richest time
yet
we have been slow to realise
we are the dumbest
and poorest.
with all our fancy toys
we are more lifeless than
the ones and zeros
that power them.
with all our connectivity
we have become the loneliest
souls to inhabit the earth.
*
there are more billionaires
there are more homeless
there are more suicides...
what the fuck is happening?
we don't know
but we will listen
to the false prophets
who claim to,
as we choke on reality tv
and instagram whores.
Everyone is the same.
Everyone is the same.

I absolutely feel this despair! Loved this line, too "let life and its irony move through the room with the dignity and grace of a garbage truck"
Amen amen, Dean! Love how raw and unfiltered your perspective is on this. We have similar feelings, friend. Thank you for sharing this amazing view.
If only everyone saw this as clearly as you wrote it. Wouldn't that be great?
I love the truth in this. It hit me when you said something along the lines of "we live in the smartest time.....we are the dumbest"; this is really observant and well-done!
You have hit on some excellent points. It is so discouraging, some of the things society is hell bent on carrying has gotten too heavy. Loved the reference to the ones and zeros, that really created an image of robotically reactions of humans.
Painful to read because it's filled with what I witness every day. Excellent work bringing this to the forefront of our thoughts and not pulling any punches.
Hard truths make sharp points. Powerful work.
A perfect description for what we have become. Excellent work.
Damn, there's a lot of truth there. Well said.
I really enjoy your vision within your words. They are powerful and emotional
