love at second sight

haikus about you

They say beauty hurts

but what they fail to tell you

is what to avoid

.

A mirror is not

where you should avert your eyes

Look away from her

.

She stands before you

Like a statue, you can't move

The worst kind of pain

.

seeps through your body

stemming from your frozen heart

So stunning it hurts

.

Perfectly sculpted

by a higher being, both

selfless and selfish

.

A gift from the gods

too beautiful to be real

her dangerous smile

.

Heart palpitations

have never felt so painful

the struggling muscle

.

throwing itself at

its cage of bones, desperate

to be at her side

.

but it must remain

trapped and yearning for something

unobtainable

.

You already know

the fundamental truth:

that you're not worthy

.

to even try to

stand on the same playing field

as someone like her

.

But she draws you in

like a magnet, forcefully

and you must submit

.

Your footsteps seem loud

rivaling your shaky breaths

as you approach her

.

Her eyes fall on you

and you freeze like a deer caught

in too-bright headlights

.

unable to move

underneath her crushing gaze

Your breath escapes you

.

You fully expect

her to look right through you but

she sees you clearly

.

Her lips turn upward

and let slip that she knows your

undeserving name

.

and though it comes out

as an uncertain question

sunshine grips your heart

.

A goddess of light

the harsh spotlight on you dims

to a gentle warmth

.

Not used to being

seen as a person and not

just an annoyance

.

you experience

a momentary loss of

functioning brain cells

.

But she is patient

as you stutter your way through

an anxious hello

.

You admit that you're

new to campus and not good

at making new friends

.

that you're just awkward

but she seemed approachable:

a little white lie

.

Her laugh, not unkind,

caresses your eardrums and

you try to commit

.

to memory, the

sound of windchimes twinkling

in a gentle breeze

.

Her cheeks flush pretty

as she thanks you for your words

averting her gaze

.

She asks if maybe

you'd like to meet up later

she'll show you around

.

You stare in wonder

confused by her own nervous

energy, like yours

.

There is no reason

you can see for her sudden

lack of confidence

.

You consider that

no one has ever told her

how lovely she is

.

Seems impossible

but if she let's you, you plan

to rectify this

.

She tells you about

a cute café down the street

and asks to meet there

.

Her soft fingers brush

against yours as she hands you

her phone, new contact

.

staring right at you

When you return your number

she smiles at you, soft

.

and you can't help but

to fall further, deeper when

you realize that

.

she's gracing you with

an opportunity for
