It's About True Love

It's about Baja Blast freezes,

Central Park swinging,

and a bond that lasts

throughout all seasons.

It's about staring contests on the subway,

smushed together and barely breathing.

Lips curving as we play this game.

Electricity pulsing through our veins.

It's about the sleepovers that never end.

And the conversations so surreal,

that I truly believe

all my old wounds

have completely healed.

But then malicious marks on my heart

from men with lesser parts

appear like battle scars.

Instead of adding his own,

he tells me to "Come home."

I blink at him and ask, "Are you real?"

He simply smiles and kisses me.

And now I know how it feels to be at peace.
