from the fire escape
i wish to sip
the city night
and glow
with its fervent
luminescence--
a million ambitious
fireflies fluttering
wildly with such
opalescent pageantry,
my skin dappled
in neon flecks.
the glittering
skyline embedded
in the canvas
of my eyelids--my personal
Starry Night;
the chaotic symphony
of the streets,
composing my new heartbeat
with car horns and
the mechanic tin of turnstiles.
i want to house
Central Park
and The Plaza
in the ivory cage
of my bones
and embrace the warm
welcome
of Ellis Island
from centuries ago.
