Unwelcomed intruders

a microscopic invasion,

stealthily enters

the equation

~

dark blobs form immediately

destroying healthy bonds

repeatedly

~

unseen by the naked eye,

infiltrated systems go

awry

~

mucous membranes; first defense

chest tightens, discomfort

relents

~

thermometers climb,

inflamed chords, cold chills

amplify

~

an alien replicates unchecked,

one goal in mind —

infect

~

science names the deadly strain,

can human life remain

sustained?

~

eradication, sometimes…

origin of species

mankind?

~

the infantry unleashes a storm,

healthy cells emerge;

reborn

~

the culprit remains to be seen,

I'd introduce them all to

a vaccine

~

from a top-secret lab or a meteorite,

aliens are hidden from us

out of sight...

My alien was the Corona vaccine. But what a story you wrote from the innards of this poem. Both poem and story are excellent.

This was fabulous!!! Loving it!!! I am home treating a virus low grade bronchitis. Your poem reminds me of Viruses - bronchitis, COVID, and flu.
