ignorance

a confession of fears

One of my greatest fears is ignorance.

That we will get comfortable saying we are set in our ways.

That we will no longer have the desire to learn.

That we will instead call ourselves old dogs with no need for new tricks.

But we always need to learn.

We need to keep educating

ourselves and others.

Because without continued education,

How will anything change?

How can we make changes in the world

pushing for reform

without advocating for education?

How can anyone turn a blind eye

to something horrific and unimaginable

spewing the excuse "it's not my problem"

"I can't do anything"

"I don't know enough"

and act like that's a reason to be stagnant?

To not care?

To stop?

One of my greatest fears is ignorance

because how can a person see another suffering

and claim it's not their problem

when we are all human

when we are all deserving.

How can it not be your problem

when it could so easily be us?

A quick and spontaneous piece. I wrote this with the situation in Palestine (and Rafah now, specifically) in mind. If you would like to read more on the issue, I have some other works about it...:

Thank you for reading.

I share your feelings on this especially. It's a terrifying concept that people just roll over and say "Not my problem, I can't fix it." Obviously with systems in place as large as governments, it gets tough but knowledge and gaining it is always something we can do here. Ignorance is so scary. Great poem!

Man, was this relatable. People become so cold and heartless without even realizing it, especially for the sake of propaganda. Powerful work, Belle.

I often cry so much for things like this, for things that I have no control over. I wish everything would stop 😭😭😭😭😭

Well-wrought! Unfortunately, until we figure out how to short circuit the business of war which is done behind the scenes, the reality of war on the ground will be inevitable. That's long been my point of view. The peasants caught in the middle aren't the ones buying and selling the missiles and tanks. They just eat the lead. Truly a sad affair. I appreciate that you care.
