i burn.

.

paper-thin skin,

an oil-soaked rag,

wicking the viscous ooze

of human condition.

hair and limbs

catching like tinder,

scorching, out of control,

on fire with

depravity, lust,

cruelty, denial,

apathy.

nothing and everything,

all at once.

.

a torch erupting

in the grim

hours of darkest night,

purples and

midnight blues

mixing into

brown, fetid pools.

raw beauty turned hideous

while

i burn.

.

a human pillar of

flame.

engulfed

consumed

ever wanting.

.

suffocated,

asphyxiated,

a bonfire to innocence lost.

i burn.

.

how can you fail to see

the twin flames licking

up my throat to rest in my eyes?

the anger, the betrayal, the despair

that writhe within?

you only see what you want to see–

blue chips of ice, frigid and cold.

.

this world struck the match

as you stood by and watched,

no compassion, no reason, no empathy

offered to quench this suffering.

now you pull up a chair and look on

as i burn and

burn

and

burn.

This has a swirling rhythm to it that when coupled with your colors create something that feels very like fire when you read it. In short, this poem was our FIRE! LOVE this! 🔥

🔥 in every sense. Boom. I especially love this line: wicking the viscous ooze. Sensory incarnate. Raw. Love it.

Your economy of words here is fantastic. A short and explosive ignition. Loved this from you.

PHOAR!!! Brilliantly dark and heartfelt writing that one just feels completely through your structure, vivid imagery and themes of heartbreak. Super impressive and powerful Heather! You’ve been missed! ☺️ I hope we can read some more shortly.

Bold, powerful, raw, courageous, painfully heating, and intensifying!!!

  • I would say that I burn for you, Heather, but that could be misunderstood. Burn with you? At any rate, not to be seen or to have all that is burning within us go unrecognized is tough. May I simply say that I see you & feel your pain?

Burning up on the inside from the actions and perception of the other. Denied the compassion and generous charity that it should be drives many a person to grief, and some to the point of violence. Like actual fire, You feel till You don't feel anymore. The nerve endings have gone away, dwindled in the heat. Thus, leaving You apathy for being so scorned. As the fires of betrayal continue to burn, the literally take Your breath away just as a real flame would. On a humorous note; if I pull up a chair to watch You burn may I bring a bag or bowl of unpopped popcorn? It seems that You're burning pretty well enough to get the job done.

Damn. Your imagery is out of the park!
