Grief's Beautiful Burden
For Real Poetic's One Year Anniversary Challenge
And we all feel that clawing pain again, that sickness in our stomachs
Normal, others and so called experts would say, just a part of it all
Not that the normality- the nauseous pangs ever lessen the gut-punch
In time, it often comes as a surprise, creeps unexpected like an intruder
Versions of the reality we first experienced, that we replay annually
Every passing iteration spotlights the clogging dirt beneath the surface
Ripping through the inconsequential, exposing the inevitable brutality
Severed though we are with each passing 12 months from it, the nexus
As reminders come like a thief in the dark of night, so too does the pain
Raping the storehouse of memories we have built, trashing, ravaging it
Year in, year out... though we repair and keep the storehouse safe

What a remarkable poem. Beautiful because of the depth of its sadness. Well written!
Painful sad and beautiful in its depth. The images our mind renders while we write. Lovely.
Love this. WHich is to say I dont, at al, because its excrutiating, but still, love the rendering.
☺️👏 Yes poignant for sure!! Loved the truth of this line as well, “it often comes as a surprise, creeps unexpected like an intruder”.
This was so poignantly beautiful! Loved this, Sir Paul! 🍩🥐
The growing pains of life that change us internally
Deeply moving reflection on grief, Paul. Thank you for sharing this window into your soul - I think it helps a lot of us see ourselves more clearly, too. <3
When grief visits, it’s never in a hurry to leave.
An excellent encapsulation of those anniversaries that carry so much pain. The imagery of the storehouse of memories being ravaged and repaired year after year is exquisitely and exactingly done
I had to read it a few times, it's a really deep piece!
Woah. That was wonderfully intense.
