Now in my life I am lucky to have a terrific and supportive network of friends, but that has not always been the case. When I was younger, a lot of my friendships were based on competition, jealousy, and insecurity. As you can imagine, that does not lead to healthy relationships. But it does occasionally lead to verse.

---

Friends hate you

Friends beat you

Friends smack you when they need you

Berate you

They bleed you

They're goddamn jealous of you

They stab you

Garrote you

And quickly tire of you

They tell you

They love you

They'll always be there for you

They'll help you

They'll hold you

And eventually kill you
