One foot after the other,

even if you stumble.

If you falter,

you musnt complain.

Build up your castle just how they want,

yet their critism causes the walls to crumble.

Theyll tell you that you are welcome,

until they can’t force you into boxes.

They’ll push the walls in until

your safe space collapses.

You’re forced into the frozen woods,

with dogs on your feet like foxes.

You fight to find a balance,

trying to build a bride to your mind.

You’ve made accomodations,

its such an easy path.

Yet they’d rather close their eyes to your efforts

and come at you blind.

You finally peel away the masks,

each layer showing your true light.

The world slips off of your shoulders

because it wasn’t yours to carry.

After a lifetime of battles,

you’re ready to triumph in your fight.

You begin to build a foundation,

one no one can try and replace.

It’s where you deserve to exist,

and you’re allowed to take up space.

Very powerful. This resonates with me. Great work!

  • This was extremely powerful! Loved your poem!

  • Not only did I need to read this and it hugged/comforted a part of me, but also this needs to be talked about more. Societal expectations are not universal and not even society's expectations, we all are just playing this fool's game, and its exhausting and burning out generations. Like gosh. Anyways, I feel like I can vent on and on about all this, but I'll pause here.
