I am not a good person
I am kind and I am sweet
Similar, the three may be,
But never shall they meet
I don't think I am rotten
Not now, not yet at least
I don't break fingers 'neath my stride
Nor chain them like a beast
I know I could be better
I think I could be worse
Yet my heart would much prefer it
If I could lift the verse
So I will look into my chest
And pry apart the bars
To pick away the stringy bits
That make the heart a liar
To listen to it closer
With the dark 'most stripped away
And work to give it greater reign
O'er what I sing and say
