Fireworks and Flypasts - Are They Ever Truly Needed?
Inspired by Mikeydred‘s ‘Truly July’ prompt
Hi there! The poem below is for you if you like to question how come things are done. Its purpose - in my view - is to highlight negative aspects of ‘celebratory’ fireworks and flypasts, encouraging us to choose what we truly need this July (and beyond).
You may receive something different from the words though. Let me know below what you gain from them, if you’d like to :)

Canada Day, Bastille Day, Independence Day in July
Their fireworks seem a waste of money - scaring wildlife, pets and veterans
▫️
Are they needed?
Truly needed?
Flypasts also. What of those?
▫️
Burning fuel for no reason, pollutes air we all breathe in - shows off military might
”Our planes are fastest”
(echoing childhood taunts)
”My Dad’s the strongest“
▫️
Ego.
▫️
What is the point of fireworks and flypasts…
… are they ever truly needed?

This poem is shared with gratitude to Mike Singleton - Mikeydred for his ‘Truly July’ prompt. I’d previously jotted down words privately expressing frustration about Fireworks and Flypasts, then seeing this prompt inspired this poem to come together - so thank you Mike.

No, I don't think they are needed. There are so many other ways to celebrate. Loved your poem!
